SPOTLIGHT - FATHER SCULPTOR
So here I am, posting about another band that sounds like they came straight out of the 80s. But wait! These songs aren't strewn with the typical overabundance of synth, sax solos, and keytars that your typical 80s throwbacks are known for. Scottish five-piece, Father Sculptor can be seen as either a sigh of relief or as adding fuel to the fire that is the 80's nostalgia-pop thats been spreading through the indie music scene. I'd say most definitely the former. There is no way of avoiding how much this band sounds like The Smiths, however they bring a freshness to the brooding alt-rock that The Smiths were known for. Much like The Smiths though, they seem to be fighting this new 80s indie, dance-pop craze with their own brand of postpunk medicine. Is history repeating itself? If so, our bet is on Father Sculptor to come out on top.
They've been releasing a slew of singles since January and they don't show signs of stopping. Their latest, "Aristide" is available for download on August 13 via the bands Bandcamp page.
It seems as though Father Sculptor is strictly performing on the island of Great Britain, but when they decide to head across the pond, we'll let you know. As for now, satiate your musical appetite with some more of their singles. We'll be on the lookout for their next one.
