SPOTLIGHT - JINJA SAFARI

Self described "forest-rock" band from Sydney, Jinja Safari are making all sorts of waves. Utilizing various textures and instruments to produce their unique tropical/tribal sound, these guys are unlike anything you've ever heard. Take the beats and Tropical sounds of Bravestation, throw in the theatrics and harmonies of a band like NewVillager, and add a dash of Ravi Shankar and you have Jinja Safari. Citing Peter Gabriel and Paul Simon as their inspiration, what's not to like? Their influence really shines through. These sounds are all exemplified on their latest track, "Toothless Grin" (Bamboo flute solos are officially the new Sax solos).

It's refreshing to see a band who is creative and fun and, at the same time, making great music. Right now it would seem they are in the process of recording new songs for their sophomore attempt. Let's hope that "Toothless Grin" just a taste of what this band has in store. They aren't set to play any shows in the US yet, but we'll keep you posted as soon as we hear that they are. For more fun and whimsy check out a couple more tracks below, "Peter Pan" Live, and a cover of R. Kelly's "Ignition".
