Hushed tones, muted drums and music that's pushed to the background all capture the lovely essence that is London's WALL (Facebook // Twitter). Behind the beautiful voice is Lyla, and with her band she's had quite a fast ride (literally) with releasing the debut single 'Magazine' on Black Cab Session Records. They've also racked up a Daytrotter Session and are about to go on a UK tour (dates below). Before before you get to all that jazz, let's get to the music. Videos and more after the jump.
'Magazine' is certainly a stand out with its yearning to take you off on a daydream. It reminds me of a gentle whisper that grazes your ear and rolls in soothing waves down your spine. It's calm but has the passion to make you reach for somewhere else. But as you'll hear and see in the video below, it's bittersweet as it's equally about being 'forgotten and left behind' (Lyla claims in an interview with Gold Flake Paint).
And if you're not familiar with Black Cab Sessions, you better be by the end of this post. WALL's song 'No Secrets' caught their attention and they were asked for a performance in the infamous black cabs of London. The intimacy of this clip brings forth the heart-stopping feeling their minimalist pop songs create.
