DAILY ARTIST SPOTLIGHT: BRAVESTATION

Well here it is, our first Daily Artist Spotlight. I'm glad to say that I'm writing about a really exciting band for our first post. Bravestation are a quartet from Toronto who bring a very cool tropical/tribal sound to more of a Peter Gabriel-esque experimental rock. Their first single from their upcoming album Giants & Dreamers, 'Signs of the Civilized' was a revelation the first time I heard it. It strikes all of the right notes: big 80's sounding drum beats, wood blocks, really intricate guitar work, they have a really interesting blend of sound. They manage to pull off really intelligent sounding music without sounding too over-the-top or pretentious.

A perfect complement to their self-described, "quirky, new wave" sound is lead vocalist Devin Wilson. The lyrics aren't wrought with banal generalities nor are they too complex to relate to, and the sound of his voice is disctinct enough to catch your ear if you're a first time listener.

For now Bravestation seems to only be touring around Ontario, however as soon as they head to New York we'll be the first ones there to give you more details. You can stream another single off of their new album, out July 10 below. You can also pre-order their album for the price of a cocktail or two on their Bandcamp page. This is definitely a band to keep your eye on. We'll be sure update you once their album drops.
