SOUNDTRACK: SAFETY NOT GUARANTEED

While watching the new film 'Safety Not Guaranteed', I couldn't help but take myself out of the story for a few seconds and ask myself, "Who is doing the score for this movie?" Well, you'd be surprised to hear, it's Ryan Miller. You know. Ryan Miller, from Guster. Did I lose you at Guster? No? Good.

Miller puts together a really cohesive sound to accompany a pretty quirky film. And the music, at times, is just as funny and quirky and as sweet as the movie itself. Don't get me wrong, there are some low points, but the highs make up for their lack. Some of these songs are even reminiscent of a few soundtracks by Jon Brion (Eternal Sunshine and I Heart Huckabees). They never manage to reach the beauty that Brion expresses in some of his best songs, but they are close. Give this album a listen, I've included a spotify playlist below.

For those of you who aren't as much of a fan of the album, I recommend you at least check out the movie. It was easily in my top 5 for the year to date.
